Union County LocalSource Several towns mull going solar

Public buildings around the county are lining up to have their rooftops adorned with energy-saving solar panels as part of the Renewable Energy Initiative sponsored by the Union County Improvement Authority.

PINEDA CONSERVATORY Musical Theatre Classes at CDC THEATRE-Open registration

Open registration has begun for Musical Theatre Classes held by the Pineda Conservatory on Saturday mornings at the Cranford Dramatic Club Theatre for students in grades 2-6 and 6-9. Classes will include movement, dance, solo, duet and ensemble musical theatre work and conclude with a performance. CRANFORD — Beginning in August, the Cranford Police Department will utilize a new communications service that allows the agency to send important community information to residents’ electronic devices.

CRANFORD — One month after the subject of instituting furloughs for municipal employees was tabled, the measure has been revisited and approved, along with the 2010 budget.

Union County LocalSource Former school property to be preserved as ‘open space’

CRANFORD — The process is under way for the town to acquire new open space in the form of property on Orange Avenue where a defunct Solomon Schechter Day School is slated for demolition.
The town government plans to buy the 3.7-acre site for $1.9 million, a transaction expected to be completed in the next couple weeks.

Union County LocalSource Cranford High School history teacher wins state DAR award

Larry P. Fuhro, a long-time social studies teacher at Cranford High School, has won the state of New Jersey Daughters of the American Revolution “Outstanding Teacher of American History Award 2010.”
The state organization determines the award based on nominations by local NJ DAR chapters. Crane’s Ford members forwarded their nomination of Fuhro to the state DAR after honoring him as their chapter nominee at their local level luncheon in March.
